How can I make it better? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. My name is Casey Smith and I will be a senior in the upcoming marching band season. I play the flute in a variety of HSE ensembles. This will be my fourth year as a member of the Royal Command and Guard, and I feel that I am more than capable of being the drum major this marching band needs.
This familiarity with playing and performing music will undoubtedly be a useful asset as a drum major. Furthermore, conducting requires a certain kind of insight and an understanding of music- something that I have started to develop during seven years of playing an instrument.
Additional to my experience with music as a whole, I also have three years of marching band experience- I am beyond familiar with the inner mechanics of this kind of performing group. Second to my experience is my determination to succeed- not only for myself and my co-drum major, but for the entire band, from seniors to eighth graders.
I believe that there is always room to improve. I believe in hard work, and never giving up; I believe in making a little improvement every day. I know that this band is capable of doing remarkable things, and I want to be the person to lead them to their fullest potential. Lastly, I love music. I love being involved, I love growing as a musician.
You can't, a team to properly work together must first accept and understand the others before they can begin to move up. It's like filling a bucket with a hole in it as you would say, you can't fill the bucket when people are stabbing holes in them. Although I've given you plenty of reasons not to choose me as drum major, I have given you far more reasons to choose me.
