Long and Short Essay on Road Safety in English
Personal ePortfolio
by Jack Kerouac

The term "out of sight, out of mind" holds very true when this is the issue. Aging can have an equal impact on your memories. This is due to the fact that as you get older, your memory wears thinner. Adults often return to their childhood memories again and again. White does this many times throughout the section. He sees certain things and they cause him to remember pieces from his childhood. There are many reasons for adults to look back on their childhood. It's fun, it's a conversational piece, and it's also sentimental.

Still, the number one reason why it is believed that adults look back on their childhood is because, it preserves their youth. The adults get to go back and re-live their childhood at will. As the father contemplates his complicity, moral and otherwise, in the devastation of the world, so do readers.

The man tells the boy that he was appointed by God to care for him. Unlike the father, however, the boy exhibits no ego but only the altruism required for the survival of a species.

The boy practices hope in a hopeless world; he appears to know no other way. As the man lies dying, he tells his son that the fire is real and that the boy must assume responsibility for it. It was always there. The fire, in the end, burns strong, and it illuminates the boy. I think it is a Beat Generation because of the beat set by Jazz.

Another thing is that they want to beat the usual generation. It is a novel of characters. Each character portrays a role of the society that he wants to address for change. He has seen the Western Spirit through Dean that he truly admires and takes into the pedestal- an idol that needs to be worshiped.

Dean and Sal make choices and realizations. There are cases when they make wrong choices, but these should not discourage them from making their future decisions. There are situations in which Dean and Sal are subjected to forms of problems.

Under such condition, their action will be determined by how their reasons control his emotions. Here, Sal emerges as the stronger one. The style that he uses is stream of consciousness and foreshadowing. Stream of consciousness is a technique wherein the writer attempts to reflect on thoughts and feelings of the character. It is manifested in the life of Jack himself.

It is seen on point of view of Sal Paradise although the hero of the novel is Dean Moriarty. Foreshadowing is using hints to guide the readers of what will happen next in the story. One hint is the road itself which represents a quest. Another is Jazz which represents liveliness of the story. Writers always express their thoughts and feelings using literary devices to enhance the quality of their words. One such device that is used by the author is symbolism. An example is Mexico- a symbol of indifference and change.

I was getting ready to go to Mexico when suddenly Denver Doll called me…. These statements imply that Mexico City is the end of their restless journey together and their friendship has come to its end. Dean leaves Sal on Mexico with an illness and that is the time he realizes the betrayal. They no longer feel acquainted but there is a sense of discomfort and difference.

Their friendship has been lost, from the joyride, fun and exciting journey through the lifeless, dark part of the chase.
